This resource from the Disability and Rehabilitation journal, explores parental perspectives on caring for the sleep of young children with cerebral palsy.
Sleep problems are common among children with cerebral palsy (CP), with studies reporting that 23% to 46% experience difficulties. These may include problems with falling or staying asleep, sleep–wake transition disorders, excessive daytime sleepiness, and sleep-related breathing issues. Poor sleep in childhood can negatively affect health, development, and daily functioning. For children with CP, sleep difficulties often extend beyond the child and impact the entire family. Understanding the experiences of parents and the challenges they face in managing their child’s sleep is essential to better support families.
