This study published in the Frontiers in Public Health journal, explored the experiences of 13 parents of adolescents and young adults with CP and examined how families adapted during this transition.

Transitioning to independent living can be a significant change for young people with cerebral palsy (CP) and their families. The findings highlight the importance of family strengths, early planning, shared decision-making and access to clear information and navigation support. Families also described challenges related to complex systems, housing and support options, NDIS processes and disability workforce issues. The study emphasises the value of family-centred services that recognise family knowledge and expertise and support a gradual, safe and sustainable transition to independent living.
