This research from the Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology (DMCN) journal, synthesised evidence on cognition in adults with cerebral palsy, including cognitive domains affected, assessment tools used, age-related changes and factors associated with cognitive outcomes.
The review found that adults with cerebral palsy commonly experience difficulties in areas such as executive function, visuospatial and perceptual-motor skills, attention, processing speed and memory. It also highlights the need for cerebral palsy-specific, motor-minimised cognitive assessment tools and more longitudinal research to better understand cognitive health across adulthood.
