This research from the Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology (DMCN) journal, summarises the best available evidence on the prevalence of CVD, its risk factors, and CVD-related mortality in adults with CP.
Adults with cerebral palsy (CP) are at increased risk of sedentary behaviour and reduced physical activity, particularly among non-ambulatory individuals. These lifestyle factors, combined with unique physiological characteristics associated with CP, may heighten the prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its risk factors. Historically, CP research has focused largely on childhood, with limited exploration of its long-term health impacts into adulthood, including CVD outcomes.
