This research from the JAMA Network journal, examines the effectiveness of early neurodevelopmental assessments in identifying CP, cognitive impairment, and other neurodevelopmental conditions within a multidisciplinary clinic.

Prematurity and hypoxic–ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) are major neonatal concerns, placing infants at increased risk of cerebral palsy (CP) and cognitive impairment. Early detection is critical because timely intervention can improve developmental outcomes. Several tools are available for early neurodevelopmental assessment, including the Prechtl General Movements Assessment (GMA), Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A combined approach using clinical history, neurodevelopmental assessments, and neuroimaging is recommended for accurate early detection of CP.
