Revolutionizing communication for people with CP: the impact of the Communication Hub website
For people with cerebral palsy (CP), having effective resources to communicate with others can positively impact every aspect of daily life – and it’s also a basic human right. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to… seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media…”.
The new Communication Hub website has been developed by Speech Pathology Australia and AGOSCI to provide accessible information about communication support and relevant services for people with communication difficulties, their families and support networks, and the wider community.

CP can impact a person’s speech and other means of communication in a variety of ways. The Communication Hub highlights many different pathways to improve communication outcomes through the use of tools, assistive technologies, and therapies that may be relevant for people with CP. For example, people who have limited speech or who are nonverbal may use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies or devices, such as an electronic communication aid, to enhance their communication.
The Communication Hub also provides guidance for people seeking the assessments needed for NDIS funding. This funding can be used for services such as speech pathology or purchasing a communication aid.
